In “Palette of Thoughts,” Sophie Dumont once again explores the universe of abstract libraries through a vertical composition that is both rhythmic and meditative. On this narrow, slender canvas, the spines of books become colored fields, organized with an almost architectural rigor. The space is structured by vertical blocks that alternate muted colors, warm tones, and more neutral areas, like a visual score of thought.
The material, applied with a palette knife, gives each band its own weight, its own presence. One perceives a certain silence, that of old libraries, but also a chromatic vibration that evokes the diversity of narratives, voices, and memories contained within each work. The colors respond to each other, sometimes overlapping, suggesting layers of meaning and fragments of history. The gaze travels from top to bottom, as if reading vertically, where each row is a pause, a breath, a deposited idea.
By playing on the alternation between formal rigor and chromatic freedom, Sophie Dumont creates a work that is as structured as it is introspective, where color becomes language, and form becomes memory.
