This composition is a continuation of his work on abstract landscapes, where visible reality dissolves in favor of a sensitive construction of the territory. The space is structured by a succession of overlapping planes, evoking fields, cliffs, or geological strata, without ever settling into a literal representation.
The color palette, dominated by burnt ochres, warm earth tones, and slightly grayish blues, establishes a subtle dialogue between warmth and breath. The contrast between the masses of color and the more airy areas of the sky creates a controlled tension, reinforced by an unstable horizon line that traverses the composition.
The material, worked in thick layers and sometimes scraped, reveals underlying strata, giving the whole a temporal depth characteristic of Sophie Dumont’s work. Each area seems to bear the memory of its creation, in a balance between construction and erasure.
The work, both structured and free, is part of a research on the perception of landscape as a mental space, where light and color become the true subjects.
