The first time I listened to these lyrics, they deeply moved me—almost struck me:
“I dove into life without knowing whether the water was good; the whole world will be able to tell me if the idea was stupid.”
These words resonate with me on a profound level. They evoke a sense of uncertainty in the face of the unknown. Diving into life without knowing whether the water is good symbolizes the risk we take when making important decisions. It is a powerful metaphor that illustrates the boldness of taking the leap, even when we are unsure of the direction ahead.
The line “the whole world will be able to tell me if the idea was stupid” highlights, to me, the fear of judgment and the social pressure we feel. It reminds us that our choices are often scrutinized by others, yet it is essential to follow our own path and challenge the established order—much like my current paintings, far removed from the blacks and greys you had come to associate with my work.
Ultimately, what matters is our personal experience and what we learn along the way. It is just as important to illustrate it and to tell it in our own voice. No matter how long the swim, there is always a shore to reach, as long as we dare to dive.
