Sophie Dumont, a contemporary French painter, develops a body of work where landscape becomes a subject for both thought and feeling. Created with oil on canvas using a palette knife, this 50 x 50 cm composition is part of an exploration of layers, memory, and chromatic balance.
The composition is organized into superimposed planes, evoking an abstract landscape traversed by horizontal tensions and freer breaks. Ochres, deep reds, and bluish grays converse in a palette that is both mineral and warm. A dense and vibrant red band structures the space and acts as a fault line or a displaced horizon, introducing a marked visual rhythm.
The material, worked in successive layers, reveals traces, erasures and reworkings that bear witness to the construction process. Some areas seem almost eroded, revealing the underlying layers and reinforcing the idea of a landscape in transformation.
Between abstraction and evocation, this work does not describe a specific place but offers an inner perception of the landscape, where light and matter construct a presence that is both stable and moving.
Framed in a natural wood American-style box (black available on request), the canvas is ready to hang.
