Ralph Resch is a French painter born in 1965 in Mulhouse. A self-taught artist, he began painting in the early 1980s, inspired by the ambiance of jazz clubs and night cafés. He later became a textile designer and attended evening classes at the School of Fine Arts in Mulhouse. In the 1990s, his travels to Africa profoundly influenced his style, introducing warmer tones and a fascination with African masks and portraits, particularly from the Fang ethnic group.
By the mid-1990s, Resch opened his own studio in Paris and developed a distinctive approach combining large-scale formats with mixed techniques. His process blends gouache, oil, ink, and chalk with raw materials like sand, clay, and glue, allowing the physical texture to guide the composition. His work, which often oscillates between abstraction and figuration, has been exhibited internationally and continues to evolve in resonance with his multicultural inspirations.
