Born in Paris in 1964, Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter whose work explores, through oil on canvas, the notions of structure, memory, and balance. Through a process of layering, erasing, and reworking, she constructs pictorial spaces where matter becomes a true language.

In this work, the composition is organized around a central core that acts as a silent pivot. The forms, both geometric and slightly curved, interlock and respond to each other in a contained dynamic, creating a fluid but never static internal circulation.

The palette, dominated by ochres, muted greens, and deep reds, contributes to this feeling of tension and balance. Each area seems to find its place with precision, without ever succumbing to strict symmetry. The whole rests on a deliberately unstable equilibrium, characteristic of Sophie Dumont’s work.

The material, worked in successive layers, rises to the surface, revealing traces of erasure and reworking. These strata lend the work a subtle depth, where the gaze moves slowly, revealing areas of density and openness.
