Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter whose work is collected internationally and featured in several museum collections. Working exclusively in oil on canvas, she constructs her works through successive layers, creating landscapes where the memory of places matters more than their faithful representation.
This 40 x 40 cm oil on canvas explores a territory suspended between abstraction and landscape. Broad horizontal layers unfold in a subtle palette of off-whites, bluish-greys, ochres, and soft earth tones. A delicately undulating horizon line structures the space, while successive planes seem to emerge and then disappear beneath the layers of paint.
Created with a palette knife and brush, the work reveals a surface treatment rich in nuances and transparencies. The different layers evoke the erosion of time, the changing light of coastal landscapes, and the persistence of memories. More than an identifiable place, Temps Suspendu offers a contemplative experience where space seems to slow down and stretch out beyond time.
