In Between Two Silences, Sophie Dumont continues her work of pictorial simplification and breathing. The composition is organized in horizontal layers, like a succession of calm planes that respond to and contain one another. Nothing here is narrative: each band of color acts as a vibration, an interval, a suspension.

Deep blues, veiled greys, and luminous beiges create an atmosphere of interior landscape, where time is perceived more than space. The material, worked in thin, rubbed layers, reveals traces, erasures, and reworkings, like so many memories inscribed in the surface.

The work does not depict a place but a state: that of a moment held between two breaths. The gaze glides, pauses, then resumes its course, carried by the fragile balance between light and darker areas. This silent tension lies at the heart of Sophie Dumont’s artistic language, where painting becomes a space for contemplation.
