In First Glimmers, Sophie Dumont explores the gradual emergence of light through an abstract landscape. Created exclusively with oil paints and a palette knife, the work is built up through superimpositions of colored planes — earthy reds, mineral greens, muted blues and softened ochres.
A subtle diagonal structure defines the composition and guides the eye between denser areas and luminous passages. The deliberately calm sky reinforces this sense of transition suggested by the title: not a descriptive sunrise, but the delicate moment when shadows begin to dissipate.
Through the material and the controlled contrasts, Sophie Dumont continues her research around the landscape as interior architecture, where memory, rhythm and depth meet.
